Every year in June Lisbon’s City Council holds an illustration open call as part of the city's month-long
festivities. The sardine, elevated to city icon, serves as a blank canvas and a vehicle to decorate the city from
top to bottom, as the
sardinhes are printed by the thousands and distributed for free to be fixed in walls, store fronts and urban
furniture.
