The Light City/La Ciudad Ligera Poster for Madrid Gráfica 17

Jury selection

The poster references the recycling symbol as an icon of sustainable thinking and hints at the lightness of a city with modern mobility structures.

The first edition of MadridGráfica, a graphic design festival organized by the Madrid Design Association, held an open call for posters about the cities of the future. Making use of an expression coined by Italian industrial designer Carmelo di Bartolo, «The Light City» («La Ciudad Ligera» in spanish) became the motto for the open call, as well as mandatory content in the posters.

The jury, composed of Ivan Chermayeff, Mirko Ilic, Alejandro Magallanes, Pekka Loiri, Alain Le Quernec and di Bartolo, selected 100 posters to be exhibited at the Paseo del Prado and at Plaza Sanchéz Bustillo, in front of the Reina Sofía Museum, in Madrid. Furthermore, all the submitted posters were exhibited at Madrid’s Central de Diseño.
